Utilities Perspectives on Heat Pumps for Retrofit and New Applications in Buildings – Workshop proceedings

For many buildings, a heat pump system offers an excellent way to meet comfort needs and save energy. This is widely recognized, yet the penetration of heat pumps in both the retrofit and new applications market remains low. The IEA Heat Pump Centre (HPC) and the International Power Utility Heat Pump Committee (IPU HPC) joined forces, and organized a workshop to discuss some key factors which can boost the heat pump market for buildings. Such factors include technical developments which reduce costs, improve performance and enhance reliability, but also state or utility support programmes, and promotional information campaigns. The workshop was held in Baden, Switzerland, on 26-27 September 1994. Sixty experts, predominantly from utilities and industry, participated. The workshop proceedings, with over 30 high quality papers, are essential reading for decision makers in utilities, government policy units and heat pump market players.
