International Heat Pump Status and Policy Review – Workshop proceedings

An informed perspective on the world heat pump situation is a prerequisite for heat pump market players, scientist and energy policy makers alike. To serve their information needs, the IEA Heat Pump Centre (HPC) and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) continue to work closely together. On August 25,they jointly organized the seminar International Heat Pump Status and Policy Review in The Hague,as part of the 19th IIR Congress. The seminar was a follow-up from the joint HPC/IIR analysis with the same title, in which 27 countries were comprehensively reviewed. In the proceedings, three seminar papers build on this analysis by providing international overviews of heat pump policies, technologies and markets. Furthermore, to aid those who want to act on this information, the proceedings include case studies which report on recent experiences from industry, utilities and national policy makers. At the seminar, the importance of advanced energy technologies such as heat pumps was highlighted by Sir John Houghton of the Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His paper discusses the scientific and political challenges posed by global warming.
