Impact of electric heat pumps size in a hybrid heat pump: a simulation and experimental sensitivity study

Hybrid Heat Pumps (HHPs) are a combination of an electrical heat pump, a gas condensing boiler and a smart controller. They are considered as a decarbonization product, able to reduce significantly CO2 emissions. The size of the electric heat pump of the HHP has a big impact on the heat coverage rate supplied by the HP. This work conducts a sensitivity analysis of the HP’s size in the HHP using two approaches: experimental approach based on a hardware-in-the-loop testing and a simulation approach using the French regulatory calculator
