Foundation Heat Exchangers: Reducing the First Cost of Ground Source Heat Pumps

Despite their high effi ciency and low operating costs, the use of ground source heat pumps in residential
applications is limited by the cost of installing ground heat exchangers. A collaborative research project between Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oklahoma State University and De Montfort University is examining potential solutions to this problem and developing design tools that will allow broader use of ground source heat pump technology in tomorrow’s homes.
