Cold Climate Heat Pumps in the US: Updates from the Refrigerant to the Electrical Grid
The US consists of many diverse climates, ranging from extremely hot to extremely
cold, with many regions that experience both over the course of a year. This broad range
of temperatures complicates efforts to electrify heating using heat pumps from both a
system design and an electric grid standpoint. This article provides an overview of current cold climate heat pump development in the US, ranging from the refrigerants to
the electric grid.
