A Tool for Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) Based Design of Residential Air Source Heat Pumps


A new tool for evaluation of the Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP) of air source heat pumps (ASHP) is
presented. This is the first tool which allows for the design of ASHP systems based on their LCCP. The annual
energy consumption of the ASHP, required for the calculation of the indirect emissions, is determined either
from AHRI Standard 210/240 or from any system simulation software. The tool supports three different ASHP
types: single speed, two capacity, and variable speed. The underlying LCCP calculation framework is open
source and can be easily customized for various applications. The flexibility of this tool allows for its use with
any system simulation tool, load model, and different emission and weather databases.
