HPT TCP has been active since 1978, with a lot of collaborative research, development, demonstration and deployment projects. We formerly called these projects "Annexes". They are conducted on a combination of cost sharing and task-sharing basis by the participating countries. Here you can read about the projects that are running right now.
The overall objective is to establish an independent knowledge base with valuable, high-quality information about the flexibility of heat pumps. Ultimately this will contribute toward an accelerated capacity for heat pump solutions to provide flexibility towards both the greater energy systems that supply them and the thermal systems and loads that they supply heat for.

The aim of the project is to gain new knowledge that supports the development of new enhanced miniaturized components and systems. Knowledge that will allow components for heat pumps, air conditioning units and refrigeration equipment to be produced with reduced cost, lower environmental impact and which will reduce the risks due to flammability through the use of less refrigerant with maintained or improved functionality and efficiency.

The overall objective is to establish an independent knowledge hub with valuable, high-quality information about industrial high-temperature heat pumps, which will create a common understanding at a variety of stakeholders, ultimately leading to an accelerated uptake of industrial heat pumps in industrial applications.

For a long time, energy efficiency has been a key selling point for heat pumps. However, with the transition to a more circular economy, an increasing focus on the lifetime of products and the environmental footprint of the materials used in the production phase is expected.

The ultimate goal of the Annex is to contribute to a broader safe use of flammable refrigerants. The objective is that the findings generated in the Annex will be used as background information when regulations regarding the use of flammable refrigerants are updated. The expected outcome is a set of recommendations for updates of the regulations.

The Annex aims to focus on the “Placement Impact on Heat Pump Acoustics” but leaves room for special topics of heat pump acoustics covering selected applications and the refinement of methods.

This Annex will focus on heat pump solutions for multi-family houses in high-density cities. With respect to the demand of the participating countries, new buildings and retrofit will be considered, as well as buildings with higher specific heating demand.

The Annex aims to analyse and develop conceptual work and engineering on heat pump integration in positive energy neighbourhoods and districts and a roadmap to the transformation of new and existing districts to high energy performance and renewable production in order to support the ambition for future sustainable districts in a cost-effective way.
