In July the European Commission (EC) officially confirmed the participation as a contracting party in the Technology Collaboration of Heat Pumping Technologies (HPT TCP). Thereby they become the 21st full member of this collaboration programme under the umbrella of IEA. This membership offers both the EC and the HPT TCP mutual benefits in reaching their visions and goals!
The formal decision by the EC to join the HPT TCP was preceded by discussions between the organisations, participation in meetings as observers and a formal decision by the Executive Committee of HPT TCP.
Having the EC onboard as a contracting party and active member will contribute to reaching the strategic objectives of HPT TCP, especially the following ones:
- More decision-makers acknowledge the multiple benefits of heat pumping technologies as a sustainable, clean, enabling, connecting, and affordable heating and cooling solution to reach the climatic ambitions and strengthen energy security and that decisions which promote heat pumping technologies are implemented.
- The deployment rate is accelerated for efficient heat pumping technologies in different applications – buildings, industry, transport, electric and thermal energy systems – to keep pace with the milestones set out in the IEA Roadmap towards Net Zero Emissions by 2050
This membership also strengthens the HPT TCP’s possibilities in implementing its strategic initiative, especially the one related to providing standardisation organisations and regional or national policy makers with reliable and independent guidance, data and knowledge about heat pumping technologies, separately or in combination with other technologies.
Moreover, this membership will enable and facilitate coordination of different activities and initiatives within these two organizations.
The Commission’s membership reinforces the EU’s commitment to advancing energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions, as part of its broader clean energy transition agenda, and strengthens the programme’s global outreach and impact.
