Workshop at the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference on “Circularity in heat pumps: Challenges, chances, change”

24 Apr 2026

Time and place:
Workshop 10. Tuesday, 26 May 2026. 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., (including a coffee break).

Background: Heat pumps provide low-carbon heat, even more so when powered by clean electricity, making them a key technology in the transition to a climate-neutral energy system. However, their material intensity, especially in combination with potential future supply risks for key materials necessitate a strengthened circularity approach across all R-strategies.

About the workshop, purpose and objective:
This workshop aims to identify and discuss the main barriers to applying circular economy principles in the domestic heat pump sector. Participants will include both project members from IEA HPT Project 65 and invited external experts and stakeholders. The goal is to share experiences, highlight challenges and opportunities, and explore possible solutions together. This workshop supports international collaboration and encourages broader engagement in the transition to more sustainable practices for heat pumps.

Formats of workshop: After a short Introduction into the topic the format will be interactive and engaging (e.g. brainstorming, focus groups, open discussions, etc.)
