Annex 61 meeting held in Hannover

09 Dec 2024

An Annex 61 working meeting was held at Leibniz University Hannover on Dec 3-4, 2024. The meeting was attended by DE, AT, CH, IT onsite and further participants from AT, JP and the US online.
The first day was dedicated to exchange interim results of the national projects and state of the national contributions in Annex 61. Different simulation projects are advancing, but for the monitoring, also some projects are paused due to economic boundary conditions. In the afternoon, the contents of the state-of-the-art report on positive energy districts have been discussed.

The state-of-the-art report compiles information of the different participating countries on the definition of positive energy districts and related institutions, policy boundary conditions, applied technologies in existing districts on national and EU level, planning-and simulation tools, labeling and certification schemes for high performance districts and PED, existing best practice projects as well as a cross-country comparison. Regarding the application of heat pumps in PED, 50 so-called “EnergyPlus districts” in Germany and 50 so-called “2000-W-sites” in Switzerland as well as the published 61 PED from the EU project “100 PED in Europe until 2025” have been evaluated. Heat pumps are most common heating systems applied in these projects together with district heating and co-generation. In almost of the projects on-site PV is one of the most common sources of electricity, amended by imported certified green electricity. The report will be amended by further contribution of DE, IT, JP and the US after the meeting and then undergo a review of the participants before it is published. Publishing is intended by the mid of the 2025 and can be updated again for the final results of the Annex 61.

A second topic were integration option of heat pumps in districts which have been discussed in a workshop on the second meeting day. In a workshop an estimation of system characteristics and favourable application cases have been compiled.
