TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL REVIEW OF THERMALLY DRIVEN HEAT PUMPS

In this work, a brief overview on current developments of and existing thermally
driven heat pumps (TDHP) with focus on small scale systems (< 50 kW cooling) is given. First, a technical overview including a brief description of the different competing technologies like liquid absorption or solid adsorption systems is presented. Following information on manufacturers are presented and an overview on available systems is provided. The economics of thermally driven heat pumps are discussed, focusing investment cost per kW cooling or heating. Finally, the state of the art in developing a standard to evaluate the technology completes the work.
