Upcoming Webinar on Increased Flexibility for Energy Systems and Thermal Networks
On Monday, May 6, between 13:00 – 15:00 CEST, the HPT TCP Annex 57, “Flexibility by implementation of heat pump in multi-vector energy systems and thermal networks”, will present their final outcomes during a unique webinar.
Based on 22 case studies showing how heat pumps can provide flexibility in integrated energy systems and thermal networks, leading researchers from Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden have included both individual homes and for large heat pumps for district heating in their studies. Their work builds on the results from Annex 47 Heat Pumps in District Heating and Cooling Systems, which proved that district energy systems can be even more efficient when integrating large-scale heat pumps.
Some of their key findings include:
- The market is growing in general: heat pumps are well operated within the energy trading markets of day-ahead and intraday. As large-scale thermal power plants are phasing out, the market for flexibility services is diversified and growing.
- The market for heat pumps in district energy systems in Europe is also growing: certain scenarios show that heat pumps have the potential to cover from 16 % to 38 % of the annual production in most of the markets.
- Heat pumps can act in the ancillary service market, especially if they are combined with electrical boilers and weekly storage. However, this is a new way to control heat pumps, and there are still barriers to overcome.
You are kindly invited to join us for this two-hour interactive session during which Annex representatives will present the results of their work, including a description of the identified barriers, possible business models and best practices. We hope you can join us!
