Task 1 of the IEA Project 65, focusing on “Heat Pumps in a Circular Economy,” involves defining frameworks and terminologies related to the circular economy and material efficiency concerning heat pumps. This task includes several key activities:

  1. Evaluation of Standards: Assessing standards for material efficiency in energy-related products.
  2. Regulations Mapping: Exploring links to relevant regulations affecting materials in heat pumps, such as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), ROHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), etc.
  3. Literature Study: Conducting a literature review to establish the state of the art in lifecycle analyses of domestic heat pumps and sharing insights from various studies.
  4. Case Study Descriptions: Documenting previous measures in heat pump design for domestic applications that aimed to reduce the impact of materials.

This task aims to create a comprehensive understanding of the current frameworks and terminologies, which will be critical for subsequent tasks focusing on the implementation and evaluation of circular economy principles in the heat pump sector.

The task 1 is planned ro run from January 2024 to end of 2024.
