The participating countries were: Austria, Canada, Japan, Norway, Sweden and USA.<\/p>\n<h3>Activities<\/h3>\n<p>The following work\u00a0was\u00a0realised:<\/p>\n<p>1. Studying ideas for improved technical performance and cost of ground-source heat pump systems<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heating-only versus heating and cooling systems<\/li>\n<li>Open versus closed loop systems<\/li>\n<li>Horizontal versus different vertical systems<\/li>\n<li>Direct expansion and secondary loop systems<\/li>\n<li>Use of different secondary fluids, including CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/li>\n<li>Vertical probes of the heat pipe design filled with CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/li>\n<li>Direct and indirect cooling<\/li>\n<li>Recharging and moisture migration in the ground<\/li>\n<li>Extraction of heat from large surface areas, e.g. parking lots, runways etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2.
